This section is a part of the chapter: Stem Cell Breakthroughs: A Cure in Sight?

Stem cell therapy is an ingenious field of scientific research that has so much potential due to its promising future in treating many regenerative diseases. The research around stem cells has been a topic of politics or media coverage, as many ethical and religious issues have been raised about it.

The first stem cell therapy was performed by a French oncologist [in 1958] named Georges Mathes. He performed bone marrow graft transplantation on six nuclear researchers who were accidentally exposed to radiation (Ebertz 2022). In 1998, an American biologist isolated embryonic stem cells. Later on, around 2006, some adult stem cells were reprogrammed to become iPSCs [Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells].
