Artemisinin was the most effective antimalarial preparation prescribed as first line antimalarial drugs obtained from a medicinal plant called Artemisia annua L., with greater antimalarial activities as discovered in China by You-You Tu in the early 1970s. There have been documented cases of resistance to artemisinin derivatives and partner drugs.
